This picture was taken by my friend Paula in Florida. She was thrift shopping for a weird hand thing on facebook (best not to ask) At one store she found this grandma doll.

Wouldn’t that be nice to find sitting on your bed? Look at the hand!

She didn’t buy it because it was $30.

Today I bought something that made me need to post. You know my obsession with these clay pigs! (and again I link) well, I bought a little slider one!

I had to. Really really had to! Right now they are sitting with the little one on top of the big one. I love them.

Anyone want a quickie?

As with any event, everyone wants to be first to spread the news. In collectibles, everyone wants to be the first to have their items on the market. It is why you saw William and Catherine books in the stores a week after the engagement announcement (the books were on the presses just waiting for dates and pictures) and how we will probably see a wedding book in the next 2 weeks.

When it comes to babies it is a little bit more difficult since you don’t have the exact date of birth and gender beforehand. (let along name) Royal Albert got around this in 1984 by producing this mug.

I have a feeling this was produced before September 15, 1984….Note the lack of gender, birth date and name. (Henry Charles Albert David – you’d know him as Prince Harry)

I love it and do own it now. Mom told me about it but she felt it was too much to spend on a mug but I have to question how many opportunities I would get to own this so I went and bought it.

It is almost time for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. This has to be the biggest royal collectible event since July 29, 1981. If that date sounds familiar, it was the wedding day of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.

I have had to be selective about that wedding. There are people who only collect it and there is tons. I suppose my views on Diana have kept me away. I generally go for the “not everywhere” things.

I did have to have mugs of course.

It is actually part of a set the same shape put out at the same time with pictures of George VI, George V and Edward VI on them.

These are pretty much a dime a dozen.

There are also plates but the only one I have now is a dresser charger

Then there are the books and magazines. Oh the books and magazines! I can’t photograph all the ones I have (and I have to say, I sold/gave away a TON when I moved). I did keep this one.

(mom bought it at a thrift store for me).

I also totally needed to keep this. A cassette recording of the wedding ceremony.

I also have a half full match book that came to me somehow

and a leather bookmark. I note that there is one for William and Catherine along the same lines. (love that blog!)

And now I have to come to probably my favourite item post 1960 in my collection. My garbage can. I got this for Christmas one year and adore it.

What could be more symbolic?

Sarah and Andrew

It is the Monday of the Royal Wedding week and I have to admit, still not a whole lot of excitement. We’ll see what I feel like in the next few days.

Today I was watching the news and they were talking about Sarah Ferguson’s “snub” from the guest list. Well, how often are ex aunts and uncles invited to weddings? By my count right now William has 4, none are invited (Sarah, Mark Phillips and 2 from his uncle Charles Spencer) Anyway, it did give me the thought to do my post on my Andrew and Sarah wedding stuff.

I have a couple of mugs,

and back

and several books.

I also have a funny little mug about their trip to the City of York in 1987.

Another country heard from

It was a toss-up between this title and “On yer bike” but I like what I did there so there you have it.

The country in question here is the Netherlands. The wedding of Crown Princess Willem Alexander married Maxima Zorreguieta (from Argentina) was on 02/02/2002. That weekend I was supposed to go on a trip but an ice storm put an end to that. I came home and watched the wedding online. Yes, in Dutch. No, I don’t speak Dutch but whatever.

There is a large Dutch population in this area and my collection of them is second only to the Canadian/British royal family.

Almost a year later I found this biscuit tin at a thrift store.

I love Wilhelmina Peppermints. I have a collection of tins with Dutch royal pictures on them. I found this one at a garage sale. It wasn’t for sale, the woman was using it as her money box, but I talked her out of it.

I have 3 mugs that I didn’t get pictures of (they use the pictures on the first tin) but my parents did find me a DVD of the wedding.

Princess Anne

The first child of Queen Elizabeth to get married was her only daughter Princess Anne. She married Mark Phillips on November 14, 1973. I wasn’t around (I was born in 1974) but it was big news apparently.

I have a few items about that wedding but only one has come from second hand shopping. My sister found this mug one day and bought it for me. I was thrilled and she said that she would have saved it for a birthday or Christmas gift if she had known.

My other mug is what prompted me to post this today. It was shown in the current issue of Majesty magazine. I got it last summer from a lady who knew I collected royal called me and I went around and bought several things from her.

It’s giant. About double the size of a normal mug.

There were the obligatory books. This is the only one I have though. A gift from my sister via e-bay.

And there was a stamp! Another e-bay gift.

Princess Anne (now the Princess Royal) and Mark Phillips had 2 children, Peter and Zara, before they divorced in 1992. Peter married Autumn Kelly (A Canadian) in 2008 and they have a baby, Savannah. Zara is due to marry Mike Tindall on July 30, 2011.
