A note-able item

Once upon a time, there was no such thing as sticky note pads. I know, amazing but true. But how, you ask, did people make sure their notes didn’t fly away? One of the ways was to use various items involving clothes pins. Like this.

It appears to be an old-fashioned desk made of some sort of resin. Back when it was new I would think it would have been clear but now its a yellow-ish tone. Embedded in the top is a clothes pin to hole the afore-mentioned notes. In the areas between the wooden sections is what looked like split peas. Don’t know why but there you have it.
